How to read your result

Sticker profit is a yield problem. A sheet that looks cheap becomes expensive per sticker once mis-cuts and weeding losses are counted, and packaging plus shipping can exceed the sticker price on a single-sticker order. Check multi-sticker orders too: they spread packaging and the flat processing fee over more units.

Method and formula

Revenue is the discounted item total plus the shipping amount charged to the buyer. Etsy fees are then deducted: a $0.20 listing fee per unit, a 6.5% transaction fee on revenue, and a 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee (US Etsy Payments). If Offsite Ads is enabled, add 15% of revenue, or 12% for shops at or above the $10,000 trailing-365-day threshold, capped at $100 per order. Profit = revenue - total fees - total costs (product + actual shipping cost + packaging + labour + other). Margin = profit / revenue. Rates verified against Etsy’s official fee pages on 28 Oct 2026. Cost per good sticker divides sheet cost and sheet labour by the number of good stickers, not the number cut. All other lines follow the standard fee model.

Worked examples

Example 1 prices a single vinyl sticker at $4 from a $6 sheet yielding 24 stickers with 10% waste. Example 2 sells 5 stickers in one order, showing how packaging and the $0.25 flat processing fee spread across units. Both were computed by the independent script.

Assumptions and limits

US Etsy Payments rates only; non-US processing rates differ. Sales tax is excluded from the transaction base for US sellers per the base fee profile. The listing fee is charged per unit sold here (one listing renewal per sale); multi-quantity listings renew per unit. Currency conversion (2.5%), regulatory operating fees for non-US markets, returns, and Etsy's one-time new-shop set-up fee are not modelled. Labour is valued at the rate you enter; unpaid time is not free, it is profit you keep only if you choose to value it at $0. Design time for the artwork itself is not included: if a design sells only a few times, its design cost per sticker is high and should be added as an other cost or amortised separately, as the printable planner page does.

Category guidance: materials and process

Cost stickers by sheet and by yield. Measure your real waste over several sheets rather than assuming a round number, because weeding-heavy designs lose far more than simple shapes. Laminate and waterproofing belong in the sheet cost: leaving them out flatters every sticker you sell.

Category guidance: pricing pitfalls

Pitfalls: dividing by stickers cut instead of stickers kept; charging packaging per sticker on multi-sticker orders (or forgetting it on single orders); and pricing single stickers so low that the $0.20 listing fee plus $0.25 processing flat fee consume the margin before any percentage fee is counted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fee assumptions

  • Fee rates verified against Etsy's official fee pages on 28 Oct 2026 (US Etsy Payments: $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction on price + shipping charged, 3% + $0.25 processing, Offsite Ads 15%/12% capped at $100 per order).
  • Cost per good sticker = (sheet cost + labour per sheet) / (stickers per sheet x (1 - waste percent)).
  • Packaging is per order: for multi-sticker orders it is not multiplied by quantity, unlike material and listing fees.
